Healing After Heartbreak: Finding the Love You Thought You Lost
Have you ever felt that overwhelming sense of being alive when you are in love? The world seems brighter, your heart feels lighter, and you feel seen, heard and completely free to be yourself. Everything feels aligned, as if a missing piece of your soul had found its home. When we are in love, it is as if the whole universe were cheering for us. We sing, we dance, we laugh without hesitation, and we feel a deep connection not only to the person in front of us but to life itself.
And then, when that person leaves or the relationship ends, it can feel as though we have lost a part of ourselves. The world dims, the magic fades, and we are left searching for answers. What is this love that seems so fleeting? Why does it feel as if it disappears when the other person is no longer there? In this article, I would like to explore what love really is, how it is connected to who we are, and how we can find it again after a breakup, this time from within.
The Illusion of Losing Love
When the person who made us feel so alive leaves, we often believe we have lost the love they brought into our lives. But what we are really missing is not only the person. Very often, what we are mourning is the version of ourselves that came alive in their presence.
They didn't give us love. They reflected the love that already existed within us.
The joy, the freedom, the sense of completeness were ours all along. The other person was a catalyst, a mirror, a trigger. The love did not come from them; it came from you.
Love Is Already Within You
Love is not something external that someone can give us or take away. Love is our essence, who we are at our core. When you are in love, you are not only connecting with another person; you are also reconnecting with yourself, and that is why it feels so natural, so aligned and so real. When that connection fades, it is easy to believe the love has vanished. It hasn't. It is still there, waiting for you to notice it again.
Recreating the Feeling of Love Within Yourself
This is where something beautiful becomes possible: you don't need anyone else to feel that love again. You can reconnect with it, nurture it and let it grow, starting now, from within. Here are a few ways I invite you to explore it.
Remember Who You Were in Love
Take some quiet time to reflect on who you were when you felt in love. How did you behave? What were your passions? What did you do more of in their presence: did you sing, dance, laugh, dream? How did you express yourself? You can write these reflections down or meditate on them, and let yourself feel again the love, joy and completeness that lived in you.
Meditate on the Feeling of Love
Close your eyes and bring back the sensation of love you felt when you were with that person. Focus not on the person but on the feeling itself. Allow it to grow within you, as if you were programming your being to return to its natural state of completeness. You can come back to this meditation every day, letting the feeling flow through your heart, your mind and your entire body.
Ask Yourself What the Relationship Revealed
A relationship often illuminates something about us. You can ask yourself what needs or desires were being fulfilled in that person's presence, what they awakened in you that made you feel free, alive or seen, and whether they were showing you something you already had within. For example, maybe you felt free to sing around them; could singing be something you have been longing for in your life? Maybe you felt deeply seen; then you might ask yourself what you are not seeing in yourself right now.
Do the Inner Work
A breakup can also become a precious time for self-discovery. If you needed someone else to awaken that love in you, you can ask yourself what is keeping you from reaching that state on your own, and how you could nurture and express that love in your daily life. Take time to look at your thoughts, your emotions and your patterns. Sometimes it is not about fixing anything, but simply about allowing yourself to reconnect with the truth of who you are.
Living in Love as Your Natural State
The love you are seeking has never left you. It is not outside of you; it has been waiting to be remembered. By reflecting on who you are when you love, by meditating on that feeling of completeness and by doing your inner work, you can return to that state of alignment. Over time, you may notice that love flows more naturally, not because of someone else, but because you have chosen to live it as your essence.
So take a deep breath, close your eyes, and remember who you are when you are in love. Let that version of you bloom, not as a memory, but as the truth of who you have always been.
Love is your essence. It is who you are, and the world is waiting for you to let it shine.
