The Power of Words, Thoughts and Emotions: How Perception Shapes Your Reality

Have you ever noticed the power of your words, your thoughts and your emotions? We are responsible for all three: for the words we speak, for the thoughts we repeat, and above all for the way we meet our emotions.

Of the three, words are the easiest to take responsibility for. They move more slowly than thoughts and emotions, so we can choose them with more awareness. Thoughts move faster and are trickier to catch. Emotions are the most immediate and often the most overwhelming; they rise like waves, sometimes before we even know why. But even then we are not powerless. We can observe, we can listen, and we can choose.

Words are often the result of our thoughts and emotions together. So if we begin with words, if we take care in how we speak, we are already shifting something in our inner world, and from there our outer world begins to shift too. We are always creating, through every word we speak, every thought we repeat, and every feeling we hold on to or release.

Creation Begins With Perception

Creation is not only about what we do. It is also about how we see. What we see may be neutral, but how we see it is shaped by our beliefs, our memories and our energy, and to a large extent it is a choice. The moment we change the way we perceive something, our experience of it begins to change.

When we change how we see things, things change.

That shift in perception opens new paths. A snowstorm can become stillness, a challenge can become growth, and an emotion can become a teacher.

Your Words Are Spells

Every time we speak, we send a vibration into the fabric of life. Our words do not only affect others; they also shape the climate inside us. Words carry belief, and belief gives structure to energy. This is why a simple sentence like "Ugh, I hate this weather" holds more power than we realize. It doesn't just describe the day; it reinforces a frequency that then reflects back to us in our experience. That is how perception creates reality: through repetition, through emotion, through vibration.

Emotions Shape What We See

Our emotions are raw energy, quick and alive and often overwhelming. But they are not wrong. They are signals, and when we observe them instead of reacting blindly, they reveal the deeper stories we carry. Some emotions are painful, yet even pain becomes sacred when it is met with presence. Every emotion that has not yet been healed is already shaping the way we interpret the world, and this is why emotional awareness matters so much: the more conscious we become of what we feel, the more consciously we create.

Reality as Possibility

At the most subtle levels of existence, I like to see reality not as something fixed but as potential. Quantum physics is often quoted to support this idea, but what physicists call "observation" is a physical measurement, not human attention, so I see it as a beautiful image rather than a proof. For me, this is a spiritual truth, one that spiritual traditions have expressed for a very long time: what you give your energy to becomes your experience, and what you believe is what you live. That is why the way we see matters, and why it is worth choosing our perception consciously.

Perception Is Everything

When I first came to Canada, I remember how many people complained about the snow, about the cold and about how depressing winter felt. But I always loved the snow. I saw its beauty, its silence, its white mystery, and I began to realize that what made winter hard for so many people was not the snow itself but the way they perceived it.

It is the same with many things. My husband once told me he had decided to like the smell of skunks (mouffettes, as we say in Quebec). Instead of hating it, he chose to embrace it, and now, when he smells it, he smiles; it even brings him a kind of peace. That is the power of perception, and that is how energy transforms: through choice.

I had the same experience with rain. For years I avoided walking in it, believing I could get sick or that it was simply unpleasant. Then in 2023, when I walked 850 kilometers across Spain, I had no choice. I walked in the rain for entire days, and it was fine, even beautiful. I got wet, yes, but I was okay. It was just water, and I was alive in it. That shift in perception gave me a freedom I had not expected.

Be Mindful With Others Too

We are not only responsible for the energy we bring to ourselves; we are also responsible for what we bring into shared spaces. It is so easy to complain out loud: "The world is falling apart," "This weather is horrible," "Politics are a disaster." These may seem like harmless remarks, but they carry a heavy vibration, and we pass it on to others like emotional clutter, a bit as if we were emptying our inner garbage into the room. The people around us may or may not take it in, but if they are vibrating at a similar level, they may absorb it without realizing it. That is why awareness matters, not only for us but for everyone around us.

We can also choose how we respond when others speak from negativity. We can stay silent, we can gently offer a different perspective, or we can simply hold our own vibration steady instead of matching theirs. We don't have to take on the weight of someone else's perception, and that too is a form of creation.

Faith, Responsibility and Vibration

Some call this the law of attraction. Others call it faith. At the heart of both is the same truth: we create what we believe, and we create what we feed. This is not about denying pain or pretending everything is perfect. It is about becoming conscious of what we are feeding, of which side we are choosing: fear or trust, heaviness or wisdom, complaint or creation.

Even when we cannot change a thought or a feeling instantly, simply witnessing it with awareness begins the shift. With time, awareness becomes clarity, clarity becomes choice, and choice becomes transformation.

The World Reflects You

Are we looking for the lesson, or only for the obstacle? Are we interpreting life as unfair, or as intelligent? Are we willing to see differently? As Jean-Paul Sartre wrote, "Man is nothing else but what he makes of himself," and mystics have said for centuries that the outer world mirrors the inner one.

So today, you can begin again: with a word, with a thought, with the way you look at your own life.

Every moment is a new brushstroke in the painting of your existence. You are not only taking part in this world; you are also creating it. And when you change how you see things, things change.
