How to Stay Grounded Around People With "Negative Energy"

I want to share something important today, because it comes up so often in my work as a healer and coach: how to stay grounded around people who seem to carry "negative energy." Many people believe that when we face heavy, dark or difficult energies, it is those energies, or the people carrying them, that bring us down. In my experience, that is not really what is happening.

What Father God has taught me is that the best way to face those shadows and difficult moments is with love, always love. And when it feels as if someone else's emotions or energy are dragging you down, it is usually not them doing it. What is happening, very often, is that we are bringing ourselves down through the judgments we place on them or on their situation.

What Really Feels So Heavy

Let me explain. Imagine someone comes to you with their pain. They are crying, venting, or simply in a very heavy place, and you start to feel bad, overwhelmed or drained. What is really going on? It is not their emotions pulling you down; it is your judgment of their emotions. Maybe you are thinking, "They're being too dramatic," or "I wish they would just be happy," or even "They shouldn't have done that and gotten themselves into this mess." All of that judgment is resistance, and it is that resistance that feels so heavy, not the other person.

So here is what I do instead. It is a form of surrender, and it happens in three movements.

Take Responsibility, Without Judging Yourself

Whenever I notice that I feel heavy around someone, I stop and check in with myself. I don't blame them for how I am feeling. Instead, I ask myself, "Is there something in me that is resisting this moment?" Maybe I am resisting their sadness, or I am uncomfortable letting them feel what they are feeling. Sometimes certain emotions are hard to face because they are emotions I have not fully accepted in myself.

The key is not to judge yourself for whatever comes up. Just observe it with love. It is an opportunity for healing and growth, not for self-blame.

Neutrality Is Your Best Friend

Before I sit with someone, I set the intention to meet them with neutrality. This means I am not seeing their emotions as good or bad; I am simply letting them be. I allow their feelings to flow and I hold space without judging them or trying to change anything.

I am not perfect, and sometimes my unconscious mind reacts. When that happens, I step back and notice it: "Okay, something inside me is being triggered. What is this about?" Again, no judgment, just curiosity and love for myself. It is all part of the process.

Add Love

Once I am in a neutral space, I take it one step further and surround myself with love. I truly feel it radiating through me, a high-frequency, unconditional love, and then I let that love flow toward the other person. What touches me is that this love is exactly what they need. They don't need fixing or judgment; they need love, understanding and acceptance.

And here is the beautiful part: when you hold that space of love for someone, you are also lifting yourself. You both feel lighter, freer and more connected, and the healing ripples out from there.

So the next time you feel that someone's energy is "bringing you down," you can look within, hold space without judgment, and bring love into the moment.

In my experience, this can transform the encounter for both of you.
